# Resume a real-time session

> Open the next recording segment of an existing session.

<ParamField header="accessKey" type="string" required>MyVocal API key.</ParamField>
<ParamField path="sessionId" type="string" required>The session id.</ParamField>

<ParamField body="capturedSamples" type="string | number">
  The total capture cursor for the session, if available. Prefer a decimal string.
</ParamField>

Returns the [session view](/api-reference/stt/getSession). Use the returned `epoch` for
subsequent frames and reset the new epoch's `sampleOffset` to zero; `capturedSamples`
remains the total for the session. Check `accepting` before sending audio.

A browser opening another socket needs a fresh single-use ticket. Resume does not restore
audio lost before it reached the service. Full resume across a service replacement remains
[unverified](/guides/stt-availability#real-time-disconnections-and-recovery).
